Our launch product is the BLAZE Bike Light, a beautifully designed, high quality, front light… But we don’t stop there!
The BLAZE Bike Light, in addition to super-bright LEDs, also has a unique projection feature. It projects the symbol of a bike down onto the road, ahead of the cyclist. It is adjustable, but ideally 4-6m in front, increasing the bike’s footprint and visibility on the roads.
A striking warning image of a bike is seen on the ground ahead of the cyclists’ current position. Thereby highlighting the passage of a cyclist through heavy traffic or along dark city roads and alerting fellow road users to their presence before its too late.
We hope through increasing the footprint and visibility of cyclists on city roads, the BLAZE Bike Light will go some way to tackling two serious causes of cycling fatalities – being caught in the blind spot, or vehicles turning across an unseen cyclist.
The projection is definitely visible in daylight, but BLAZE is designed for use in low light and at night, when you’d normally use your lights! – The majority of cycle accidents occur in commuting hours, which in the UK are in ‘low light’ for over half the year!
We will be using rechargeable lithium cells that with both the light and projection on ‘constant’ will last around 5-6 hours. Meaning a cyclist commuting an hour a day will need to charge it once a week at the most. On “flashing” mode they will last much, much longer! More detailed specs coming…
The BLAZE Bike Light projects in green to increase its visibility as the human eye is most sensitive to light of this colour. See our article in the blog on this for more information.
Yes. More details will be revealed soon, watch this space!
BLAZE General ReleaseIn short the bad news is that the BLAZE bike light will not be available until Autumn 2013. The good news is it will be accompanied by a wider range of BLAZE lights and yes that will include a rear light! Distribution is likely to be through stores (UK) and through our own online store (Internationally). Why the wait?Following our Kickstarter campaign we are focusing on fulfilling the initial order batch, ensuring components are well sourced, manufacturing processes are refined and quality assured, whilst developing a greater range of BLAZE products. In the meantime please register your interest by signing up to the pre-order list. No spam we promise! |

| Emily left reading Physics at Oxford University to study Product Design at Brighton University, where she graduated top of her year and was sent on an entrepreneurial scholarship in America. After the interest and excitement generated around her final year project, Emily formed her own company and is launching the ultimate innovation for urban cyclists, BLAZE, as the first in a range of products. Her startup is also a part of and supported by the accelerator programme Entrepreneur First. |
With a background in Mechanical Engineering and First Class degree from Birmingham University, Matt went on to study Industrial Design Engineering at the RCA, where he now returns as a visiting tutor. Some of Matt’s most celebrated work includes the underwater Scuba Diving aid, the Bladefish, and B&Q’s Sandbug and Gofer power tools. With technical know-how, a beautiful design aesthetic and many successful products in manufacture, Matt is the main man to be developing BLAZE! | Professor Wang obtained his BA from CCIST Taiwan and PhD from Cambridge University. He was Scientific Advisor for EOS and MRL of ITRI Taiwan and a professor at NCTU Taiwan. He was the founder, chairman and CEO of Quantum Optech Ltd, the co-founder and director of Arima Optoelectronics Co, and the founder of NanoGaN… Or in other words, BLAZE’s very own World leader in LED technology and optical design guru! |
The youngest of the team, fresh out of Bristol University having graduated with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Will’s passion for cycling, design and an adventure led him away from the graduate scheme path and towards the madness of BLAZE. Known to ‘charge’ about the streets in the occasional fixie race, Will brings a ‘can-do’ attitude, tonnes of creativity and a touch of the cycling-cool. |
